Tuesday Lunch, Constraint #72
Every Tuesday for a month, have lunch with someone you barely know or don’t know at all. A colleague you’ve crossed paths with, a neighbour, someone you met last week.
Reference artist(s): Allan Kaprow.
The protocol
- Commit to one month… four Tuesdays, four lunches.
- Identify the people for the four weeks in advance if possible. They must all be people you barely know or don’t know at all.
- Propose the lunch without a specific agenda: “I’m doing an artistic constraint… I’m having lunch with someone I barely know every Tuesday this month. Want to come?”
- During lunch, no particular rule about what to talk about. Just be present.
- After each lunch, write one sentence: what you learned that you didn’t know before. Four sentences by the end of the month. Upload to the site.
Variations
- Do it on the same day each week but at a different time… morning, noon, afternoon, evening.
- Each time, invite someone from a different generation than your own.
