The Abandoned Book, Constraint #75
Take a book you love. Write a note inside. Leave it somewhere in a public space with a post-it: “I’m yours.”
Reference artist(s): Ernest Pignon-Ernest.
The protocol
- Choose a book you love and can part with… not your one and only irreplaceable copy. A book that changed you, or simply kept you company.
- Write inside… on the first page, a sentence that belongs to you. Not a summary, not a recommendation. Something personal.
- Prepare a post-it or bookmark that simply says: “This book is yours. It’s a gift.”
- Choose where you will leave it… a bench, a café table, a shelf in a hallway, a bus stop. A place that feels right.
- Leave the book. Photograph it in place. Walk away without waiting. Upload the photo to the site.
Variations
- Leave ten books in ten different places in a single day.
- Choose a book you didn’t enjoy but that deserves a chance with someone else.
