Constraint n°053

The Ritual Backup

Manually back up an element from your digital life. Understand what you keep.

Once a week, consciously back up an element of your digital life (photos, messages, important files). Not automatically... by hand. Understand what you're keeping and why. A digital time capsule.

Instructions

  1. Each week, manually choose what you want to save (an important email, a conversation, a photo, a code).
  2. Create a dated folder: "Week of [date]". Copy files into it consciously, naming them.
  3. For each file moved, ask yourself: why am I keeping this? If you can't find an answer, don't keep it.
  4. Back up this folder in two separate places (external hard drive + secure cloud for example).
  5. Note in the folder one sentence about what happened this week. It's your minimalist journal.

Variants

Export all your data from a social network once a month... print or save it.

Back up your most important messages... print them.
