The Cuisine of Noise
Cook with sounds as a score. Record it. It's a composition.
Cook using only the sounds produced by utensils and ingredients as a musical score. Nothing else. Record the result.
Instructions
- Choose a recipe that involves varied movements... cutting, beating, boiling, whisking...
- Set up an audio recorder (phone placed) before starting. Start recording when you cook.
- Cook normally. But be aware of the sounds you're making... the knife on the board, the pan heating up, the water boiling, the noise of the oil.
- Halfway through, listen to a few seconds of the recording. Adjust your movements to vary the sounds... slower, louder, more rhythmic.
- Finish cooking. Stop recording. Listen to the whole thing. Post the audio on the site. Title... the name of the dish.
Variants
Cook the same dish twice... once normally, once seeking to create a sound composition. Compare.
Do it with two people... voices forbidden, only cooking sounds.
