The Conscious Pixel

Create an image pixel by pixel in a spreadsheet. Each cell is a pixel.

Create an image pixel by pixel in a spreadsheet (Excel, Calc, Google Sheets). Each cell = a pixel. Background color = the pixel's color. Zoom out to see the image appear.

Instructions

  1. Open a spreadsheet (Excel, LibreOffice Calc, Google Sheets). Reduce the width of each column to approximately one centimeter.
  2. Choose a simple pattern to reproduce... a letter, a simplified face, a recognizable object.
  3. Color each cell with the corresponding color in the pattern. One cell = a pixel.
  4. When finished, zoom out until you see the entire image. This is the moment when the cells disappear and the image appears.
  5. Take a screenshot at maximum zoom out. Upload to the site.
