Body Phase Shift

Slow down an everyday gesture by ten percent each hour.

Choose a daily physical gesture (walking, chewing, breathing). Slow it down by 10% each hour. By the end of the day, the gesture has become a performance.

Instructions

  1. Choose a daily physical activity... walking, eating, writing, typing on a keyboard.
  2. Watch your body while you do it. Without trying to change anything. Just observe.
  3. Now, shift one part of the movement. If you walk, do it slightly slower. If you chew, do it on the opposite side from usual.
  4. Notice the resistance... what your body automatically wants to resume.
  5. After twenty minutes, write one sentence about what you learned about your body. Post on the site.

Variants

Do it in public, in a transit space. No one must notice.

Apply the shift to the way you speak... slight slowdown, different pause.
