The Voice of Another
Record yourself reading a text in someone else's voice. Not an imitation... a channeling.
Choose someone you know well. Read a text aloud as if you were them. Not an imitation or a parody. Try to speak the way they would speak.
Instructions
- Choose someone you know well. A parent, a friend, a colleague. Someone whose voice and mannerisms you know.
- Choose a text: a poem, a news article, a recipe. Something neutral.
- Record yourself reading this text as if you were that person. Their rhythm, their tone, their hesitations.
- Listen back. Note what came naturally and what you invented.
- Send the recording to that person if you dare. Note their reaction.
Variants
Do the same exercise with someone you barely know. Invent their voice.
Record the same text in three different voices: yours, someone close, a stranger.
