The Absurd Object
Create an object that serves no purpose. Carry it with you for a week.
Create an object that has no function. It doesn't need to be beautiful. It just needs to be useless. Carry it with you for a week.
Instructions
- Assemble, build, or sculpt an object from whatever you have at hand. It must serve no purpose.
- Give it a name. A serious name, as if it were a real object.
- Carry it with you everywhere for a week. In your bag, your pocket, on your desk.
- If someone asks what it is, explain seriously. Invent a function.
- After a week, photograph the object and write three lines about your relationship with it.
Variants
Create the object with someone else. Each person adds something without consulting the other.
Create a whole series of useless objects. Give them catalog numbers.
