The Slow Meal

A meal in slow motion. One hour minimum. Each bite counts.

Eat a meal in at least one hour. Chew slowly. Put down your fork between each bite. Pay attention to every texture, every flavor.

Instructions

  1. Prepare a simple meal. Nothing elaborate. Set the table properly.
  2. Sit down. No phone, no screen, no book, no music.
  3. Eat each bite slowly. Put down your fork between bites. Chew at least twenty times.
  4. The meal must last at least one hour. If you finish too fast, wait before the next bite.
  5. After the meal, write three sentences about what you noticed that you never notice when eating normally.

Variants

Do it with someone else. Without talking. A silent, slow meal.

Do the opposite: eat as fast as possible. Then compare the two experiences.
