The Conversation Without Direct Answers
Have a conversation where every answer is a question. See how long it lasts.
Start a conversation with someone. Rule: you can only answer their questions with other questions. See how long the exchange lasts before one of you gives up.
Instructions
- Choose someone who's willing to play. Explain the rule: every answer must be a question.
- Start the conversation on a simple topic.
- Keep going. Don't answer any question directly. Only respond with questions.
- Note when the conversation becomes absurd, interesting, or frustrating.
- Write down the conversation from memory. Note where it went and why it stopped.
Variants
Do it with someone who doesn't know the rule. See if they notice.
Do it in writing: text messages only, for a whole day.
