The Three-Hour Bench
A public bench. Three hours. No phone. Just be there.
Choose a public bench. Sit down. Stay exactly three hours. Observe everything that happens around you. No phone, no book. Just you and the place.
Instructions
- Choose a bench in a busy place... public square, park, station. Not an isolated spot.
- Sit down. Put your phone in your bag or pocket, on silent. No book, no notebook during the first hour.
- Observe. People, lights, sounds, movements, details you never notice when passing through.
- Stay three hours. If you feel like leaving, note the urge and stay anyway.
- After three hours, write for twenty minutes without lifting your pen... everything that came to you during those three hours.
Variants
Choose the most ordinary bench possible in a place you cross every day. Stay three hours there.
Do it at different times of day... morning, noon, evening... on the same bench. Compare.
