Constraint n°047

The Resurrected PC

Recover an old PC. Install Linux. Discover that obsolescence is software.

Recover an old PC (attic, Emmaüs, LeBonCoin). Install Linux on it (Ubuntu, Mint). Discover that obsolescence is often software, not hardware.

Instructions

  1. Find an old PC... attic, Emmaüs, LeBonCoin, a friend who "no longer needs it". Minimum 8 years old.
  2. Download a lightweight Linux distribution: Linux Mint, Ubuntu, or Lubuntu (for very old machines).
  3. Create a bootable USB drive with Rufus (Windows) or Etcher (Mac/Linux).
  4. Start the PC from the USB drive. Test Linux "live" without installing... see if it works.
  5. Install if you want. Document each step with photos. Upload to the site the "before" photo (dead Windows screen) and "after" (living Linux).

Variants

Give the resurrected PC to someone who needs it.

Do it with an end-of-life Android phone with a custom ROM.
